Current tip-Fall
The fall is, in my opinion, the best time to be on the water. There
are a lot of things that are going on and the fish are going crazy.
This is the time of the year that the shad and other bait fish start to
move to the back of creeks for the winter. The bass will follow these
schools and gorge on them. You want to fish primary points with
creek bends with medium to deep diving crankbaits. You can also
move back into these creeks and beat the bank up with shallow
running squarebill crankbaits and spinnerbaits. In clear water you
want to throw a more natural looking colored crankbait and add a
little color in darker water. X-Factor Lures can make any bait that is
needed for any of these conditions. This is also a great time to get
on a topwater bite. I always keep a topwater bait tied on for when I
see bass busting schools of shad. Once you see this throw that
topwater bait just beyond where the bass are busting the top and
get ready. I like to throw prop baits and Spooks this time of the year
for topwater bites. If this isn’t effective then throw one of the
crankbaits that you have tied on in the same manner has the
topwater. If you are looking to learn new techniques, this is also a
great time to throw drop shots and shaky heads. My favorite bait to
use for these two techniques is the Culprit T-Rex and T-Rex Jr. Best
of luck to you and always remember that safety is number 1.
